Vertigo Q & A

What is Vertigo?

Vertigo is a feeling of dizziness or a sensation that your head is spinning. With vertigo, you might experience mild or intense bouts of dizziness, usually triggered by changing your head’s position.

While rarely a serious problem, vertigo may increase your risk of falls and in some cases, can be debilitating.

What causes Vertigo?

If you have vertigo, you might experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:

  • A loss of balance

  • Dizziness

  • A sensation that your head is spinning

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

These symptoms might come and go and be short-lived or long-lasting. You may experience tinnitus, or ringing in your ears, with or without vertigo. If you have symptoms of either, schedule an appointment with Complete Wellness for an evaluation.

What are the risk factors for Vertigo?

Vertigo often has no known cause, but it might result from abruptly changing the position of your head or experiencing a blow to the head. Risk factors include older age, being a woman, or having a medical condition involving balance organs in your ear.

How is Vertigo diagnosed?

To diagnose vertigo, your Complete Wellness provider reviews your symptoms and medical history. They may complete a series of tests to find out what’s causing dizziness, use MRIs, or recommend additional diagnostic tests that detect abnormal eye movement.

What is the treatment for shoulder pain?

  • Canalith repositioning - Canalith repositioning involves several slow head positioning maneuvers that help move around particles from canals in your inner ear. Your provider shows you which head exercises to complete in the office and at home between treatments.

  • Chiropractic adjustments - By manipulating misaligned areas of your spine, your Complete Wellness practitioner helps reduce chronic pain and vertigo symptoms naturally.

  • Brain tapping - Brain tapping, or forced meditation, helps reduce stress, reboot body systems, revitalize you, optimize your brain’s peak potential, and relieve vertigo symptoms.
